4core community feedback
At 4CORE, we believe that the true impact of our work is best reflected in the voices of those we've served. Here, you’ll find stories and testimonials from community members whose lives have been positively changed through our programs.
Marilyn Leftwich
“Thank you to 4CORE and the CARE Program- this is a fantastic resource for our community!”
More about Marilyn:
Marilyn recently bought an older mobile home and wanted to ensure that there weren’t any energy efficiency concerns that she should know about. She applied for the CARE Program, received a free home energy assessment and was very pleased to learn that her home was actually pretty well-sealed, with the exception of two bathroom fans that were allowing heated air to escape. The CARE Program installed new fans with dampers, resulting in much more comfortable bathrooms now that are no longer letting heated air out and cold air in. Marilyn also received a new refrigerator since hers was very old and wasn’t Energy Star-rated. She says it has been much quieter, and it’s nice to know that she is no longer using extra energy for running the fridge.
“I’d suggest that all of my neighbors apply for the CARE Program and find improvement in trailer living! Since trailers aren’t built with energy efficiency in mind, they would benefit from the CARE Program and the changes that can be made for free.”
Beth Lamberson
“I have a 122-year-old house that was not built for energy efficiency. I knew I couldn’t afford the work that needed to be done. I also knew that I could trust the process with 4CORE, and it was a direct referral from friends who also had a great experience with energy efficiency upgrades.”
More about Beth:
If you’ve been in Durango for any length of time, you would know Beth for all she contributes to our community. 4CORE was pleased to be able to give back to Beth with energy efficiency upgrades.
Beth bought her home 10 years ago and has been making upgrades to her Victorian home as she can over the years. Beth’s old home needed a lot of work to keep it in good condition, much less work to upgrade its efficiency and make it more comfortable. By participating in 4CORE’s programs, Beth was able to have her home’s attic insulated, doors and windows sealed, the crawlspace door repaired to prevent cold air from freezing her pipes as they did every winter, and high-efficiency fixtures for her faucets and showerheads.
Beth says that she could feel a difference in the warmth of her home the first night after the insulation was blown into the attic. She feels more cozy in her 122-year-old home, and paying her utility bills is less stressful now that she’s done everything she can to improve her efficiency.
“Everyone who visits my home loves it…now I feel like my house loves me!”.
Lawrence Nass
“This is a program you can’t lose… See if you qualify! It’s such a benefit to your daily life and can put money in your pocket. It's really worthwhile.”
More about Lawrence:
Lawrence moved to Durango in the mid-1990s. He’s a well-known musician, piano teacher, and performer. For 30 years, he’s been making efficiency improvements to his home. The original home was built in the 1950s and was completely uninsulated, save for some crumpled newspapers in the walls. Lawrence had his work cut out for him!
He qualified for a free energy efficiency audit with 4CORE and received professional help deciding what remaining measures were necessary to make his home more comfortable and affordable during our cold Colorado winters. During the audit, a gas leak and a fire hazard were found and repaired. Lawrence was also able to determine which remaining upgrades he should make first and which improvements weren’t necessary, ultimately saving him money long-term. Lawrence recommends not putting off repairs to only find you must spend more on utility bills every month.
