You pay for water three times—once to buy it from a utility, to pay to heat it, and once to dispose of it as wastewater.

In Colorado, it’s estimated that 1.2 gallons of water are consumed per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of energy used. 13% of the nation’s energy use is by the water sector.

Rain Water Harvesting Education

Have you seen the rain water harvesting demonstration sites? In 2019 we completed three sites in the county- Pine River Library, Powerhouse Science Center and Bayfield Primary School. Our goal is to educate and encourage area residents to save precious rain for gardens and landscaping.

“DIY Build a Rain Barrel” Workshops

Hands-On Workshops provided the how-to construct your own rain barrel with recycled rain barrelsWe had over 60 participants in five workshops in the region who raved about the water conservation information by water harvesting professional, Doug Pushard from HarvestH2O .

In 2017 we reached at least 120 residents and the potential is there to save up to 720,000 gallons of water collectively in our region every year – enough water to fill roughly 1.2 Olympic-size swimming pools. That’s about 6,000 gallons per 1,000 square feet of roof during the rain water collecting season, March-October.

Top 6 Reasons to Harvest Rainwater!
